Fried wontons with pork and crab are a popular Thai snack, perfect as an appetizer or finger food to share. The filling combines ground pork and crab meat, two bold flavours that pair beautifully in a land-and-sea harmony. To get the best results, keep the filling portions small so the pork cooks evenly, and fry until the wrappers turn a deep golden brown for maximum crunch. These wontons are best enjoyed hot and crispy, fresh out of the fryer.

Fried Wontons with Pork and Crab – Ingredients (serves 2)

Stuffing

  • 1 coriander root

  • 1 teaspoon white peppercorns

  • 1 garlic clove

  • 80 g minced pork

  • 40 g raw crab meat

  • 1 coriander sprig, chopped

Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

Other

  • 12 wonton wrappers

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

How to Make Fried Wontons with Pork and Crab

Step 1 – Prepare the filling. Pound the coriander root, white peppercorns, and garlic into a smooth paste. Add the pork, crab meat, and oyster sauce, pounding until smooth. Mix in the chopped coriander.

Step 2 – Shape the wontons. Divide the filling into twelve equal portions. Place each portion in the center of a wonton wrapper. Fold into a triangle and seal tightly.

Step 3 – Fry until golden. Heat oil to 180°C. Fry the wontons for 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Transfer to kitchen paper to drain.

Step 4 – Serve immediately. Enjoy hot and crispy, paired with a sweet and sour cucumber relish or a sour and spicy lemongrass dipping sauce.

Tips for Perfect Thai Snacks

  • Keep the filling small for even cooking.

  • Fry until the wontons are golden brown, not pale.

  • Serve straight away to keep the crispy texture.

  • Prepare in advance and refrigerate uncooked wontons, then fry just before serving.

Wontons in Thai Cuisine

Wontons are a Sino-Thai influence found in noodle soups, dim sum-style snacks, and appetizers. Fried wontons with pork and crab highlight the Thai love for mixing land and sea flavors. They’re often enjoyed as a small dish, perfect for sharing with family and friends.
